Montauk enjoyed a very rich prehistory in which native people lived here, fishing, hunting and farming, many centuries before the first European settlers established themselves on the East End.

We have created a museum with the intention of preserving and presenting to the public the history of the original inhabitants of the land.

Through workshops, lectures, films, and displays, visitors to the Montauk Indian Museum are offered opportunities to explore early Native American life, with an emphasis on the skills and materials that prevailed in our area.
